How To Make Friends in College

Making friends in college is supposed to be easy, right? Then why does it sometimes feel like everyone else has their group and you’re still searching? Spoiler: You don’t need to change who you are or fake interests to find your people.

1. Start Small, Go Real

You don’t need to be the life of the party. Ask one genuine question in class or share a quick comment in a group chat. Real connections grow from real moments.

2. Quality > Quantity

It’s better to have two friends you can cry-laugh with at 2 am than 200 people who don’t really get you.

3. Join Spaces That Match Your Vibe

Clubs, intramurals, study groups, even the random board game night in your dorm—pick one thing that feels you. Showing up where you’re comfortable = meeting people you actually click with.

4. Drop the Mask

You don’t need to pretend you love keg stands or philosophy debates. Being authentic attracts people who appreciate you as you are.

Real Talk:

You don’t need to “fit in” everywhere. You just need to belong somewhere.
